Caring For The Religious

Is it different than caring for a non-religious person?

Post Author: Dr. Ellis

I have rendered care to the religious for almost four years. I have intentionally and consistently been grateful for this experience.

I always encourage Nursing students to be open minded when choosing to answer this calling as well as choosing which area of expertise or specialty in which they wish to practice.

I initially chose to practice in this capacity because I felt God was speaking to me. The role does not require my many years of experience or the credentials I’ve acquired. Of course there was some criteria to be met, however I surpassed that. In the lay professional Nursing world, I was overqualified.

I have no regrets in choosing to serve others in the way I have done these past few years. I have gained much in the process, which is a gift. You see, no matter what the population, they are all people! People who are dependent upon others for their care and well-being. People who are grateful and sometimes challenging. People who are sick spiritually, and strong physically, people who are hurting, yet in denial, people who need the compassionate hand or ear of a Nurse.

There is no difference!
